A dazzling display of rockets shot out from the arches above Big Ben’s famous dials, kicking off a spectacular pyrotechnic show.
As Big Ben fell silent, Vangelis’s Chariots Of Fire theme was played, overlaid with the 2005 announcement that London would host the 2012 Olympics. A fast-paced soundtrack mixed by BBC Radio 1 DJ Nihal to accompany the display started with Labrinth’s hit Earthquake featuring Tinie Tempah singing: ‘We got the bass banging from here to Buckingham Palace’ as pink comets blasted from the hub of the London Eye.
The top three displays to celebrate the New Year as recognized by the International Charter are:
1. London
2. Sydney
3. Dubai
London was praised for it innovative use of key landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye, and the synchronization of the display to music.

New York, Rio, Taipei, Moscow, Berlin, Auckland, Paris, Stockholm, Toronto, Edinburgh, Tokyo, Jakarta, Buenos Aires and Chicago
