Follow on Google News | Sparks Rotary Receives $300,000 From The Fred Searles TrustThe Rotary Club of Sparks received a generous donation before the holiday season. The organization received a $300,000 donation from the Fred Searles Trust and was presented with a check on December 1, 2010.
Retired Air Force Colonel Fred Searles was a long-time resident of northern Nevada. He was passionate about teaching and instilling leadership and ethics to the youth in the local community. When Trustee Kathy Hilderbran learned about Sparks Rotary’s different youth outreach programs, she saw how the programs’ goals matched Searles’ vision for his trust. The money from the trust will help to continue the Sparks Rotary’s Youth Leadership Program. The program sends local high-school juniors to a week-long camp, where Rotarians act as mentors and counselors. It will also help to launch the organization’ “The money we received from the Fred Searles Trust will do a lot of good for these programs for many years to come,” Bob Lord, Past President of the Rotary Club of Sparks and owner of The Electric Company of Reno, says. “With the help of this generous donation, Sparks Rotary will begin to form its own 501(c)(3) to help expand its reach in the community.” The Rotary Club of Sparks has several events coming up, including its District Conference and Kids Free Fishing Day in June.
