New Book Compares Havre de Grace’s Past to Present

Local author pens new book revealing the history of this Maryland city

Jan. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s Then & Now series is Havre de Grace from local author Linda Noll. The book features a stunning collection of vintage and modern images, comparing the town’s past to its present.

Some believe that Havre de Grace’s name is derived from “C’est le havre,” an expression coined by General Marquis de la Fayette during the late 18th century. Once a small settlement, Havre de Grace now boasts a population of 13,000 and has evolved into a major attraction for recreation and tourism.

Highlights of Havre de Grace:
•   City Streets
•   Historic Houses
•   Places of Worship
•   Hotels, Inns, and Taverns
•   Recreation and Entertainment
•   Business Establishments
•   The Business District in the 1950s

Comparing our present to our past is how we understand our history.  Arcadia’s Then & Now series makes such local comparisons available.  Books in this series offer a special view of American life, placing historical images side by side with contemporary photographs.
