Attorney Anthony Rickman is Featured on Channel 10 News

Jan. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- On the evening of December 20th, Channel 10 News ran a news story about a case where the State’s Attorney’s Office chose not to charge a man who had allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old with an ice pick after a bout of road rage. On November 21, the two men were driving south on Manhattan Avenue when according to the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office, 62-year-old Al Polanco supposedly cut off 20-year-old Wathson Adelson. After Polanco cut in front of Adelson, Adelson then cut off Polanco and slammed on his breaks. Shortly thereafter the two men stopped their cars and got into a verbal fight which quickly turned physical when 62-year-old Polanco stabbed Adelson with an ice pick.

Under the Florida law called “Stand Your Ground,” self defense which involves deadly force is allowed under certain conditions. Especially conditions where the person had reason to believe that they were in imminent danger. This law applies to any location in which a person is legally allowed to be in. Although not affiliated with the case, attorney Anthony Rickman was featured on Channel 10 News where he said, “The law itself allows for interpretations of what it means to stand your ground and what it means to retreat. And the big thing is – is the force you use “reasonable” for the threat you perceive?”
