Pure Planet Recycling Limited, a leading UK data destruction company, has successfully launched an eco friendly data destruction service after designing and producing EDD, the Eco Drive Destroyer. At the start of this year, the directors of Pure Planet Recycling saw the need within their business for a device that would crush hard drives, media tapes and other IT storage devices without the use of electricity. After many design ideas and prototypes, EDD was finally created and promoted to customers in April 2011.
EDD is a hand powered press that simply crushes hard drives and tapes making them unusable and destroys the device prior to recycling and recovering the materials for remanufacturing. Being powerless and easily transportable, EDD can operate on a customer’s site, regardless of location. In the five months since EDD’s launch over 6000 hard drives alone, had been crushed saving 240,000 watt hours of electricity compared to the previous electrical manner of destruction.
EDD highlights Pure Planet Recycling’s aim to reduce their environmental impact and find eco friendly alternatives within the business. In April 2012 Pure Planet Recycling will publish the amount of electricity saved since the launch of EDD and will continue to look for business practises where energy can be saved.
