Dixon Golf to Hold Recycling Events for the Waste Management Phoenix Open

TEMPE, ARIZ, December 29, 2011 — For the second year in a row, Dixon Golf will hold recycling events as a prelude to the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Prior to last year’s Open, Dixon Golf collected 144,000 used golf balls for Waste Management’s water feature on the18th fairway lake at the TPC of Scottsdale. The golf balls collected this year will again go into the water feature, as well as being used in other tournament displays.

The recycling events will be held the weekend of January 6-9 at the PGA TOUR Superstore in Scottsdale during regular store hours. The first one hundred people each day who recycle at least one dozen golf balls will receive a general admission pass good for any day to the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Those who bring in the most golf balls each day will win a pair of Member’s Club passes. Additional Member’s Club passes will be given out to the top three overall donations of golf balls. Other prizes, like Dixon Golf balls, hats and shirts will also be given away to daily winners.

Each year, more than two billion golf balls are manufactured for sale world-wide. Dixon Golf is the first golf ball manufacturer to make a golf ball that is meant to be completely recycled. This is achieved by using a recyclable polymer in the core of the golf ball – a place where other manufacturers use heavy metal fillers.

A priority for the 2012 tournament is the “Zero Waste Challenge,” Waste Management’s campaign to educate patrons about how to properly dispose of their trash so that eventually zero waste is sent to the landfill. This will help Waste Management reach their goal to triple the amount of recyclable materials nationwide by 2020.
