Dec. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- On Dec. 13, Pet Sitters International (PSI) staff members sorted the dozens of cat and dog food donations received from collection sites throughout Stokes County. PSI partnered with 10 other Stokes County businesses to collect more than 900 pounds of cat and dog food Dec. 1-12. The donations were collected as part of PSI’s Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive, an annual initiative to provide much-needed food to help local homeless pets.

The pet food donations were divided between the Stokes County Animal Shelter, Animal Rescue of Stokes County and the Stokes County Humane Society. 2011 marks the third year PSI has hosted the Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive.

“PSI appreciates the local businesses and individuals that supported this year’s efforts,” said Patti Moran, PSI president. “In the current economy, these donations are more important than ever and the recipients will put this pet food to good use to help local pets in need.”

Pet food donations were collected by PSI, The Stokes News, Beyond Salon & Day Spa, the King locations of Lowe’s Foods and Food Lion, King City Hall, Farm Bureau, King Veterinary Hospital, Bank of the Carolinas, Coffee Tea and Me and Pampered Pooch Groomers.

“We have fed close to, if not over, 1,000 animals since this time last year and the number of pets we are feeding grows each month,” Mona Triplett, Executive Director of the Stokes County Humane Society, said. “The Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive comes at the perfect time for us and we appreciate all of the help for Stokes County pets.”

PSI’s local Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive is part of the association’s larger, international effort to help pets in need. As part of this effort, PSI also reached out to its nearly 7,000 association members to facilitate Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drives in their local communities as well.
