The Run was a USATF certified course that began on the MAR-JCC Campus and headed west, wrapping around to NE 22nd avenue, over to NE 18 Pl, and then returned back to the JCC Campus. Professionally timed by Split Second Timing, the run was monitored and managed by volunteers and staff of the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, who provided refreshments, bagels, and other various healthy snacks. The Miami-Dade police were also on hand, blocking roads and making sure the course was safely accessible and easy for runners to navigate.
“I was extremely pleased with the turn-out of this year’s race, as we were able to raise more money for a very worth while program,” mentioned Nancy Carroll, Director of Sports & Wellness at the JCC. “We’re hoping the event brought more awareness to the community regarding the benefits of the Health, Sports, & Wellness Programs that the MAR-JCC provides, including those that promote healthy lifestyle, exercise, nutrition and more, among all age groups from toddlers to senior citizens,” Nancy added.
Medals were awarded to the top 3 Male/Female athletes in each age division as well as an award given to Male/Female overall winner, and Male/Female Masters Winner. (40 & over) The Top Overall Male Winner was Miguel Tellez, and Top Overall Female Winner was Sandra Forero. Top Master Male Winner was Leochel Lordeus, and Top Master Female Winner was Lara Block. In total, 32 different groups of runners were awarded medals for their participation.
