PRLog -- Friendly Sol Pearlman knows a good deal when he sees it; whether restoring antiques or buying Indian motorcycles,
getting tickets for the theatre or spending time with his family travelling to Cape Cod. Now, Sol can enjoy life even more after having had eye surgery done by Board Certified Ophthamologist Dr.Stanley Braverman
LASIK SPECIALIST located in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
When Sol was a youngster, growing up in Brooklyn, New York, he was playing in the street with a ball and it bounced into a storm drain on the curb. Eagerly,
he tried to retrieve the ball with a wire hanger. Regrettably,
the hanger poked the child in the left eye which immediately
affected the pupil, and lens, penetrating his cornea. His mother took the child to the hospital immediately where the doctor patched him up, but the eye, to his family's dismay, would not work normally.
“From the age of six, my left eye was partially closed and all I could see were shadows. As a result, I became bored of reading, cut classes and started having school trouble and not paying attention. I did not excel in school as my brother and sister did, and I turned out to be the black sheep of my family. As I became older, I did my best and worked in management,
and eventually found satisfying work as a caregiver,” Sol said.
During an annual eye check up with optometrist Dr. Norman Hershkovich
in Fort Lauderdale,
Sol asked the doctor about his eye trauma from childhood.
“The doctor said he knows of an ophthalmologist, Dr. Stanley Braverman, who might be able to help. At first, I thought the doctor was kidding because fifteen doctors already had said nothing could be done with my eye and just to leave it alone.”
Sol made an appointment with Dr. Stanley Braverman. After a thorough eye examination and evaluation,
Dr. Braverman determined that the injury resulted in damage to the cornea, and Sol had severe corneal astigmatism due to injury. Sol also had cataracts in both eyes, left eye more than right. Dr. Braverman explained that by removing the cataract and using an astigmatism
lens implant for the left eye, as well as performing additional correction of astigmatism using corneal relaxing
incisions,
it should be able to improve vision in the left eye, as well as improve the astigmatism
from the severe childhood trauma. "When I heard that, it was an emotional moment for me because I was looking at life through one eye since I was six years old.”
It's been almost a year since I had a successful cataract surgery on both eyes. My left eye has a toric implant for my astigmatism and my left eye can see 20/30 without corrective lenses, and 20/20 with a mild prescription.
And my right eye, which has a Tecnis Multifocal implant sees 20/20 without any corrective lenses! I can read the smallest print on anything without reading glasses, and now I have perfect vision at night. Now, I read and enjoy reading without glasses." Sol said, " I consulted about fifteen doctors and Dr. Braverman was the only one to say "yes".
The surgery was definitely worth the money for the premium lens implants and the astigmatism surgery, and I would do it again! Dr. Braverman made the comment that "it is the greatest feeling in the world to be able to help people in such a way. Over the past twenty years, I have seen incredible changes in all of our operations."
A cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye responsible for focusing light and producing sharp images, becomes cloudy and hardens, resulting in loss of function of the visual system. The lens is clear at birth, but is one of the first body parts to show the effects of ageing. Cataracts are painless and usually develop over several months or years. The beginning of a cataract in one or both eyes may cause decreased night vision, impaired depth perception and increased color distortion.
Cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss among adults 55 years and older. In fact, poor vision from cataracts affects 60 percent of all adults over 60 years of age. However,
cataracts can also be the result of trauma, heredity,
or medication and can affect people of all ages.
Realizing that no two patients or their conditions
are the same, Dr. Braverman analyzes each patient's
symptoms,
performs
a comprehensive eye exam, and can verify the glare disability and reduced contrast sensitivity
that your cataracts are causing. The final decision to proceed with surgery is the patients. Usually surgery is not recommended until your glasses do not work to make you happy visually.
Cataract Surgery: What to ExpectDuring cataract surgery your cloudy natural lens is removed. Your eye is like a camera, and when the lens of the camera is cloudy, this would be like having a cataract. Your cataract is usually dissolved using high frequency ultrasound through a small (less than 3 mm) incision; then a new, clear, man-made
lens is then placed inside the eye where the cloudy lens previously existed.
Cataract surgery continues to improve. Recent developments include no-stitch surgery, local anesthesia,
surgical correction of astigmatism,
as well as new advanced premium lens implant designs. Eye drops are given to patients to assist in healing after the surgery. Full healing takes several months, but the patient can return to normal activities almost immediately after surgery, and usually sees well after three to five days. If your eyes are otherwise
healthy,
cataract surgery is successful in more than 98% of patients, and you enjoy better vision after the surgery.
