Dec. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- The feeling you’re not going to make it to your destination is a haunting feeling when driving an electric car and you are not alone. In fact this has been referred to as "range anxiety" and as the electric car era spreads beyond the golf course into communities and even the highways this feeling becomes all too real. However the common cause of battery failure is usually at the fault of the owner or the person responsible for charging the batteries.  Apparently there are many misconceptions on how to care and properly charge your golf cart batteries.  After doing some research myself online I was quite confused on the amount of contradicting information regarding the recommended way to care for golf cart batteries.  I even spoke to several golf cart companies and was astonished by the amount of conflicting information I received until I reached one company here in The Villages who directed me to their web site http://www.villagesbatterydoctor.com/ to read and download 27 pages of information directed solely to the care of batteries and what actually causes premature failure.  At first it seemed like a lot of reading but I came out understanding the entire process and the chemical reactions that actually make the batteries hold a charge and continue to do so for a long period of time if properly maintained.  Batteries aren't cheap and let's face it, like gasoline they are not going to get any cheaper.

I took the time to visit the Villages Battery Doctor who also happens to be The Villages Golf Cart Man.  In speaking with the owner Tony Colangelo I was impressed with his enthusiasm on how he claims his Battery Rescue process works and how he is willing to back it up with a money back guarantee. Placing my trust with Tony seemed to go hand and hand, with the amount of information he offers on his web site free of charge to help educate people on golf cart batteries proves he certainly isn’t trying to keep any secrets.  He was willing to spend as much time as I had questions on his product that he assures works and has many customers calling their friends for a helping hand. His take was simple when he said in his own words "You have nothing to lose, only something to gain."  He continued by showing me the inside of a battery and how lead sulfation can stick to the lead plates causing the batteries to fail and preventing them from getting a full charge every time and how his product can reverse this effect and also give a full charge each time you charge the batteries. He referred to as "topping off the charge".  He also went on to explain that it doesn't work every time if a set of batteries is just too far gone and claims that is why he will credit your back your money towards a new set of batteries if you don’t see a significant difference in range.

They offer many package deals for battery systems including automatic water fill systems along with the Battery Rescue device that can be added to you cart onboard or mounted in your garage or charging station.  The product is designed to alleviate the sulfate that builds up on the plates and can top off the charge with a slight trickle charge which also can be left plugged into the cart for the months you're not using your cart to keep the batteries full of charge without losing water as a traditional charger would.  That alone is a keeper if you’re a seasonal resident.  You can also visit his web site http://www.villagesgolfcartman.com/index.html for many tips and huge selection of golf carts and accessories.  As far as golf cart batteries go they offer many brands and selections with warranties up to 24 months on certain kinds.  I would recommend contacting them to see what you can learn or see how they can help restart your cart.

It is nice that I know a little more about the batteries in my golf cart and makes me realize that when in doubt ask an expert.  The information that I received from the web site and directly from The Golf Cart Man was valuable and easily obtained.  Villages Battery Doctor also offers a 24HR Roadside Service for The Villages area in case you breakdown or run out of juice.  I strongly recommend this inexpensive service for any person who uses an electric car (or gas for that matter) like a golf cart.  They even offer a free loaner cart with a premium service agreement.  It is basically a one stop shop for all of your golf cart needs on the historic side of The Villages and is also golf cart accessible.  Link to 24HR  Road Side Rescue Service http://www.villagesgolfcartman.com/id8.html
