It'll make you happy and it'll make you proud!”

“Only One Ocean has got to be the grooviest and greenest album yet …
sounds like Bob Dylan subbing in science class…”
GO2 The Hot List - Family & Kids
ONLY ONE OCEAN, the latest children’s musical science CD by the Banana Slug String Band, has been awarded 1st Place in the Toys & Games category by Museums & More Magazine in their annual Giftys Awards.
“The Giftys provide the industry with a voice on the latest trends in each category,” according to Museums & More. “These awards recognize the best in the industry as voted on by retailers.”
The CD is 14 new original songs from the Banana Slug String Band, all designed to inspire young people and their families to learn about and care for the ocean.
"We know how powerful music can be and we are very grateful to the Giftys Awards for helping this message reach the ears and hearts of as wide an audience as possible," said band member Doug Greenfield.
Perhaps best known for the farm-to-food anthem “Dirt Made My Lunch” and the band’s danceable hit “Water Cycle Boogie,” the Banana Slugs have long been favorites of preschoolers, college students, and educators alike. The band’s music ranges from rock to gentle blues, bluegrass to cajun and features vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, harmonica and percussion.
Over the past 25 years, the band has won wide acclaim; awards include the Association for Independent Music Indie Award for Best Children’s Recording and a National Parenting Publications Awards Gold Award. The Slugs have performed at hundreds of venues across the U.S. including the Monterey Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Festival and at museum venues such as Birch Aquarium in San Diego, CA, and the Museum of Natural History in New York City.
ONLY ONE OCEAN CD is co-sponsored by COSEE, the Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence, and the album’s previous honors include a 2011 Parents’ Choice Award, a 2011 Creative Child Magazine Award, and a Starred Review in School Library Journal.
