Greenspoint Gives Back with Local Coat Drive for Star of Hope Mission

Dec. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- When winter finally finds its way to Houston it can bring really cold temperatures the usually warm climate. During those cold spells many of Houston's homeless are not prepared for the freezing temperatures. National Housing Benefit Alliance and Sysco Houston-Greenspoint joined forces to coordinate a Coat Drive benefiting the Star of Hope Mission. During the winter the, Star of Hope serves over 1,000 homeless men, women and children and has a great need gently used or new coats to help keep them warm.

“We can truly make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate by making sure everyone stays warm during the cold winter season. NHBA believes in giving back to the communities we serve as well has the needy throughout the Houston area.” said NHBA Director of Business Development Fernell Hogan.

With the assistance of HR and Recruiting Coordinator, Brian Walz, Hogan set up collection points throughout the Greenspoint facility of Sysco Houston. Several coats were donated by the company's employees. “We've been in the Greenspoint area for about two years. This is a great opportunity for our company to give back,” said Veronica vanEgmond, VP of Human Resources at Sysco Houston Greenspoint location.

Hogan says his organization will continue to collect coats until the end of the year. Any Greenspoint area company interested in supporting the Coat Drive and the Star of Hope Mission may contact NHBA for details.
