Dec. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- As Texas and other southern states continue to struggle with effects of the summer drought, tree experts say area homeowners need to continue watering their trees.

Louis Flory, owner of Ability Tree Experts (http://www.abilitytrees.com) in Kingwood, Texas said area trees need professional care for the next few months even though the temperature has cooled down.

“When you look around, it appears trees should be doing fine and they are doing better but the problem is that the full effects of the drought are just being felt now. Do not be surprised if you find your trees dead or dying even in this cooler weather,” he said.

Texas Forestry Service this week announced the state lost a staggering 500 million trees to the drought.

Flory said that number is just devastating. “If you have been to Memorial Park (in Houston, Texas) or any other park lately, you will understand what I am saying. To lost 500 million trees is just unbelievable but trees are still dying and cities are struggling to cut the trees down as quickly as they can,” he said.

Flory advised homeowners to continue watering their trees to help them survive or even thrive. “Proper watering of the trees is the key especially if the trees are young. Younger trees have not had a chance to grow their roots deeper into the soil so they need additional help,” he continued.

He told homeowners to watch for unusual insect or pest activities around their trees. “Weakened trees are like magnets to these tree insects and diseases. Look around and you will find many weakened trees. Homeowners need to keep a close eye on their trees and call in the experts as soon as they notice anything unusual,” Louis Flory said.
