New Book Compares Stockton’s Past to Present Through Photographs

The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s Then & Now series is Stockton from local authors Daniel Kasser and Amanda Zimmerman. The book boasts more than 200 vintage and modern images, comparing the town’s past to its present.

Since its 1848 beginning, Stockton has been a geographical and symbolic epicenter for prosperity and good fortune. Beginning as a Gold Rush–era supply depot, this city became the nexus of an agricultural empire and a center for industrial innovation with international markets.

The images featured in this book explore and illustrate Stockton’s metropolitan expansion from the waterfront, challenges to citizens and city planners, and today’s urban renaissance that is redefining Stockton’s future.
