Dec. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO - Cognitive Medical Systems, the emerging specialist in standard-based, advanced concept software solutions for healthcare organizations, announced today that it secured the federal HUBZone, or Historically Underutilized Business Zones, certification.

Valid for three years, the federal small business designation will help their primary contractor partners meet stringent requirements to sub out some of their work out to them.

“We wanted to not just lead the charge in generating standards-based clinical decision support software solutions within the government  and healthcare markets, but do so in a way that created good jobs for people in areas that has historically performed lower than expected,” said Douglas W. Burke, President of Cognitive Medical Systems. “It was a long process to achieve this certification, but well worth it.”

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s HUBZone program helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities. This status goes to small businesses that obtain the certification in part by employing staff who live in a HUBZone. The company must also maintain a "principal office" in one of these specially designated areas.

“This designation increases our visibility with partners who are striving to meet their subcontracting goals that ultimately gets our decision making healthcare software into the hands of providers to improve outcomes,” said Mary Lacroix, Founder and CEO of Cognitive Medical Systems. “We’re even more excited about our potential to play a game-changing role as a result!”
