The program is designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently completed cancer treatment and are chronically fatigued from either treatment or the disease. Participants must have a doctor's clearance to participate.
"We just completed the first session of the program and it was very well received," says Katie Beck, Miller YMCA's executive director. "Its goal is to help patients increase muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance and improve overall physical ability."
YMCA membership is required, however, thanks to a grant from Swift Memorial Health Care Foundation, the Y is offering 12 individual YMCA memberships at no cost to those wanting to participate but cannot afford membership. To be considered for a free membership, a financial assistance application (available at the Y) must be completed and submitted.
For more information, contact the Miller Y at 805-480-0309 or email Katie Beck at kbeck@millerymca.org.
