Dec. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- DETROIT – Michigan Buick dealers know it’s that time of the year again. December and January bring automotive awards that recognize the best of the best in the industry for vehicle design and performance. This also means a nice marketing program for the lucky automakers who win.
The North American Car of the Year and Truck of the Year are still being decided, and those winners will be unveiled at the Detroit auto show, but other awards are being doled out ahead of the big event.
Michigan Buick dealers learned Thursday the Buick LaCrosse took home top honors from The Detroit News. In a column filled with vehicle praises, Scott Burgess of the Detroit News commented on what the newspaper deemed to be the top car and truck of the year along with some honorable mentions too.
What stood out the most was the amount of coverage Burgess gave to the Buick LaCrosse, and the points he hit on made the amount of coverage completely warranted.
“More importantly, the technology in the LaCrosse comes standard; eAssist is standard on the base model LaCrosse,” Burgess writes. “Furthermore, it’s so important to improving gas mileage; it’s easy to see how GM will migrate this technology into many more vehicles in the near future.”

This will no doubt assist Michigan Buick dealers in showing customers how significant the technology of the mild hybrid system in the LaCrosse is to the automotive industry. The fuel efficiency LaCrosse drivers will achieve—25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway—actually outperforms “many subcompact cars on long hauls,” Burgess also writes. To receive all that luxury, all that rear-seat leg room to fit three adults comfortably and all the benefits of the mild hybrid technology starting at just under $30,000, it’s easy to see why the LaCrosse topped the list.
Though the LaCrosse received little modifications in exterior and interior design in the 2012 model, it received additional praise for its new telematics system, the Buick IntelliLink, which is a great improvement over the earlier version installed in previous LaCrosse models.
Other winners on the list included the 2011 Ford F150 for Truck of the Year and honorable mentions for the 2012 Audi A7, 2012 Ford Focus, 2012 Honda Civic, 2012 Jeep Wrangler and 2012 Land Rover Evoque.
