The company will begin constructing the hydroelectric project El Diamante, which will be located in the Department of Matagalpa, in March of 2012 with a nominal capacity of 5 MW. During its construction phase, it will be generating 220 direct jobs and will be ready and operational in January 2014.
The second hydroelectric project, Piedra Punta, will be located in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN) and will be constructed in May 2012 generating up to 200 new direct jobs. This renewable energy plant will have a nominal capacity of 15 MW.
Additionally, the company has also invested in a exploration mine in Bonanza, Nicaragua, a forestry project and the construction of a business process outsourcing (BPO) project in the country’s capital. In 2009, HEMCO also began installing an additional turbine for the Siempre Viva hydroelectric project in RAAN, Nicaragua.
