With possible political opening Minds Abroad to explore creation of 1st study abroad in North Korea

Minds Abroad, a provider of study abroad programs in Asia for American students, currently exploring creating the first ever study abroad program in North Korea, with the changes that may occur in the country after Kim Jon Il’s recent death

PRLog - Dec. 18, 2011 - KUNMING, China -- On Monday December 19 it was announced by North Korean television that Kim Jon Il had died.  There has long been speculation that under his likely successor and son, Kim Jong-un, the country’s political system may become somewhat more open.  If a process of liberalization were to allow for more international exchange, including educational and cultural exchanges, Minds Abroad will explore the creation of the first ever study abroad program in North Korea.

Minds Abroad conducts study abroad programs for American and other international students across Asia.  It was recently named a “Top 10 Program” in Citizen Diplomacy by the Council for Citizen Diplomacy and the US State Department.  Minds Abroad currently offer the majority of its programs in the People’s Republic of China.

Though the transition period is considered to be politically unstable, once new leadership in North Korea is in place, Minds Abroad will monitor the political situation in North Korea closely.  Should there be significant opening of the political system and a shift in attitudes towards educational and cultural exchanges in North Korea, Minds Abroad will explore steps to offer the first study abroad program in North Korea.
