Domestic violence is a prevailing issue that plagues our community as it affects one in three women in the United States everyday. Every nine seconds a woman becomes a victim of abuse or partner violence. According to the California Women‘s Health Survey, approximately 40% of California women experience physical intimate partner violence in their lifetimes.

“JFS/Haven House plays a critical role in providing hope to victims of domestic violence, regardless of age, ethnicity or religion,” said Susie Forer-Dehrey, Chief Operating Officer of Jewish Family Service. “We want to thank the evening’s sponsors and participants who help ensure that we will continue to assist victims of domestic violence and provide both safety and empowerment in the years to come.”

“It is one thing to be a victim of domestic violence, but it is even more vulnerable to be pregnant and in need of a safety and shelter for yourself, your unborn baby, and your children. Elizabeth House, a shelter program for pregnant women and their children, has partnered in this community for seventeen years, making a difference in the lives of countless women in need of shelter, safety, and support. We are here to empower women, embrace life, and give hope.”

The goal of the night is to draw attention to this an issue that affects women of every race, age and background, and to work to change the course of domestic violence for all survivors and their families. The event is also partnering and kicking off Rock the Red Now, a campaign founded by a survivor of domestic violence and focuses on empowering and uniting women simply through the color red.

“Our desire is to bring quality and like-minded people in our vast network all in one room to ring in the New Year together while drawing attention to a very serious matter that impacts families in our community,” said Ngoc Nguyen Lay, Creative Director and Principal Consultant of Skybox Event Productions.

The funds raised at the events will enable two local women shelters to continue to help individuals affected by domestic violence, as well as to educate the community about the widespread issue.
