Mikki tames timid pets with gentle grooming range

If your pet is nervous though, it can be difficult to groom regularly.

Below are three top tips from Mikki, the grooming, training and healthcare experts to help owners groom nervous pets with confidence. Using advice and experience of both Alison Rogers, grooming champion and Claire Arrowsmith, pet behaviourist, Mikki aims to help owners enjoy the experience every time.

Effective grooming top tips:

1/ Keep calm! Your pet will pick up on your mood, so it is important that you don’t feel anxious when grooming. Make sure you are in a relaxed environment and start by stroking your pet.

2/ Keep it fun! If your pet enjoys being brushed, then do this first and leave the elements they don’t enjoy until last (such as cutting their nails) so they have had a chance to relax into the grooming session.

3/ Reward! It’s important to reward good behaviour so your pet learns what is good and bad. When grooming, do a little bit at a time and reward your pet after each step with a treat.
