Hesketh Black Label – grape and terroir synchronised

Dec. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Hesketh Wines is proud to present their trio of white wines from their Black Label range – Krems Austria Perfect Stranger Grüner Veltliner, Clare Valley Scissor Hands Riesling and Adelaide Hills Bright Young Things Sauvignon Blanc.

Hesketh’s Black Label wines are produced from only the most celebrated grape varieties, from only the most acclaimed regions for those varieties – wherever they may be, anywhere in the world. They are made under a winemaking regime that reflects the family’s passion, appreciation for outstanding quality and more than half a century in the wine industry. These wines are, in essence, grape and terroir synchronised.

2010 Krems Austria Grüner Veltliner Perfect Stranger               RRP: $26.00

Grüner veltliner is an Austrian grape variety that has been cultivated since the Roman age. It makes a delicious dry, aromatic white wine, displaying thought-provoking complexity.  This wine is made in collaboration family friend Berthold Salomon, whose family have been making wines in Kremstal since 1792 (www.salomonwines.com).
This compelling, provocative wine displays complex aromatics of delicate stone fruits, fig, lime, dried herbs, freshly-cut hay and classic cinnamon and white pepper spice. The palate unfolds with crisp, schist-mineral acidity, balanced by a soft, viscous texture. Fresh citrus and spice are followed by a persistent, complex finish. (12.3% Alc./Vol.)

2010 Clare Valley Riesling Scissor Hands                                   RRP: $20.00
The riesling grapes for this wine were sourced from a low-yielding, single vineyard in the Polish Hill sub-region of the Clare Valley. The fruit was handpicked at optimum flavour ripeness, before it was de-stemmed and crushed in preparation for fermentation in stainless steel. This wine reflects the sublime harmony of riesling and the regional flavour profile of the celebrated Polish Hill.
The nose is redolent of citrus and cherry blossom with lime and citrus zest, bursting with granny smith apple. The palate displays clean, crisp and fresh of lime, grapefruit and lemon citrus, linear slate-minerality with limestone-talcum undertones. Scissor Hands has tightly-focussed mineral acidity, typical of excellent Polish Hill Riesling. (12% Alc./Vol.)

2011 Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc Bright Young Things                                         RRP: $20.00
Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this wine come from two premium vineyards in the Nairne and Lobethal sub-districts of the Adelaide Hills, renowned as one of Australia’s greatest Sauvignon Blanc terroirs. The particularly long and cool growing conditions of the 2011 vintage resulted in an extended ripening period and exceedingly concentrated fruit flavours.
Green grass and baby asparagus tips complement fragrant and lifted aromatics of thyme, grapefruit and passionfruit vine, with some hints of lemon and granny smith apple. The fresh, crisp and clean palate is bright with citrus fruits, nicely integrated with riper tropical flavours filling out the middle palate, preceding a persistent, vibrant and racy finish. (11.5% Alc./Vol.)
