Dec. 15, 2011 - Regardless of unemployment shooting up to a 17-year high, almost half of employers said that they could not find the right person when they have a vacancy, British Chambers of Commerce. A report, from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said employers had ‘concerns about the employability of young people’. It found that bosses prefer foreign workers to British school leavers because they have a more ‘positive’
attitude. Junior Enterprise LTD Managing Director said that “I believe that regardless of race, positive attitude is essential in every work environment. Positive attitudes can enhance the working relationships between colleagues. If you want to work in an environment where there are motivated and empowered employees, then individuals need to uphold positive healthy attitudes.’
A spokesman for the Department for Education said: ‘We share the concerns of many businesses that too many of our young people leave school without the skills needed for work, in particular in the basics of English and maths.’ Managing Director of Junior Enterprise LTD agrees that it is crucial – saying “If you look up the word ‘basic’ it says –‘providing the point from which something can develop; simple and not complicated.’
Recruiters are not looking for the next Einstein they just need to applicant’s to possess the basics in order for that individual to progress within the workforce”
