Follow on Google News | Stockholm’s Berns Hotel gears up for Millennium maniaWith Stieg Larsson fans on the edge of their seats as they await the film release of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stockholm is placed firmly on the wish list for those wanting to follow in the footsteps of their favourite characters.
By: Travel PR To celebrate the film’s launch, Stockholm’s stylish Berns Hotel has created a special Millennium package. This includes a screening (in English) of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a copy of the book and a Millennium Tour map, leading visitors at their own pace around city landmarks which feature in the film. A large part of the Millennium Tour focuses on the trendy, bohemian district of Sodermalm, south of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) and within easy walking distance of Berns. It is here that Larsson aficionados will spot the home and work place of Mikael Blomkvist, the obsessive journalist intent on discovering the truth about a woman who has been missing for 40 years. The tour then snakes past the smart building where Blomkvist’s accomplice, Lisbeth Salander – a young surveillance agent and computer hacker – buys her 21-room penthouse apartment. Look out, too, for the Mellqvist coffee bar which features in the film, and has special significance to Millennium fans, as much of the trilogy was written here. After a day spent on foot exploring the city which so inspired Larsson, the 82-room Berns Hotel provides the perfect retreat. Voted ‘Sweden’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ at the 2011 World Travel Awards, it offers contemporary, quirky accommodation close to Stockholm’s pretty waterfront and the city’s main shopping areas. Guests at Berns can dine at one of two acclaimed restaurants: Following a delicious dinner, guests can enjoy a drink or two at the terrace bar overlooking Berzelii Park or take in a show at the spectacular on-site concert venue. For those wanting to sample some of Stockholm’s famous nightlife, Berns Hotel has its own world-class nightclub, entrance to which is one of the hottest tickets in town. In keeping with the movie theme of this Millennium short break, the club is called 2.35:1 after the widescreen film format and is a nod to the arty rolling footage which adorns its walls. A two-night Millennium package in January, including B&B, costs from £194 pp (two sharing). Make your Stockholm stay even more special with a visit to Sturebadet, the city’s most exclusive spa, or add special touches – such as champagne, chocolates and even a Love Kit – to your room booking (additional cost). Flights extra. For example, Ryanair flights from London Gatwick (Stockholm Skavsta) cost from £50 pp return. Alternatively, SAS flights from London Heathrow (Stockholm Arlanda) are from £135 pp. For further information contact the Berns Hotel on 00 468 566 322 00; reservations@ ENDS / 13th December 2011 Press enquiries: Please contact Penny Law at Travel PR on tel: 020 8891 4440 or email: p.law@travelpr.co.uk # # # Travel PR is one of the leading travel PR agencies in the UK with over 30 clients covering trade associations, hotels, tour operators and tourist boards.
