PRLog - Dec. 13, 2011 - DUBAI MEDIA CITY, UAE -- The Product of the Year UAE 2012 consumer award initiative has moved one step closer to the rollout of a national targeted consumer survey following the successful conclusion of its recent Jury Day pre-screening session, held at the Media One Hotel in Dubai Media City.
A prestigious independent award that recognizes excellence in quality and innovation in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, Product of the Year has been active in more than 35 countries for over 25 years. The new UAE award is the first in the GCC region, with the programme set to be launched in successive countries across the Middle East and into North Africa.
The Jury Day pre-selection process featured product samples from all nominated companies, and jury members were asked to review each item across a range of detailed criteria to assess their eligibility for the consumer survey process.
Each jury member completed a multiple choice questionnaire to identify those competitors that best fit the Product of the Year international requirements and ensure that only the innovative products go on to consumer research phase.
The UAE jury included representatives from the Dubai Chamber, the International Advertising Association, International Business Women’s Group Dubai, American University of Sharjah, The Institute of Management Technology, and the French Business Council.
Commenting on the process, Mr. Dory Kfoury , CEO, Product of the Year Middle East, said: “The first UAE edition is a milestone in launching Product Of The Year in the GCC region; the level of innovation of market players is quite advanced whether from a technological point of view or from meeting the needs of a diversified consumer base. The array of products submitted this year is a reflection of the UAE consumer’s sophistication, making it crucial for market players to strive to offer more innovative products. The Jury members’ opinions were quite diversified and reflected the diversity of UAE consumers.”
Product of the Year is the only FMCG product award voted for by consumers via a national survey and phase two will see local market research partner TNS launch a nationwide consumer survey, based on face-to-face interviews, with the winners of each category announced during a gala dinner to be held in March 2012.
The winning products have the right to use the coveted Product of the Year logo on marketing and merchandising material for a 12-month period and the distinctive red label is designed to help local shoppers find the most innovative new products on-shelf.
