Collier County Audubon Society is one of the most effective environmental policy and lobbying organizations in Southwest Florida. Over the past 50 years Collier County Audubon Society has advanced conservation efforts where appropriate in the context of smart growth and has supported environmental education programs. The Society’s advocacy spans from expansion of wetland conservation programs in Collier, Lee, Hendry and Glades counties and wildlife refuge creation in the Northern Everglades to advancing the Florida Panther Protection Program through local policies and objective science review. The Society has provided policy makers scientific based information on wetland functioning, climate change, sea level rise, and their ecosystem implications. Collier County Audubon Society also co-sponsors environmental education for thousands of elementary-aged students and conducts an extracurricular Audubon Young Birders program. In addition, the Society sponsors monthly public lectures on a wide variety of topics to include Ospreys and Hurricanes at the Naples Botanical Gardens and conducts field trips to birding “hot spots” in Collier and surrounding counties. # # # The Collier County Audubon Society is an independent chapter of National Audubon Society and Audubon of Florida with approximately 2,000 members. Its mission is to promote an understanding of, and interest in, wildlife and the natural environment that supports it, and to conserve as much of the Southwest Florida environment as possible.
