Giesen Wines is pleased to announce the appointment of Barry Rodwell in the newly created role of General Manager of Sales, Australia.
Barry joins the Giesen team with 24 years of wine industry experience behind him, having previously worked with the Hardy Wine Company, Taltarni Wine Company and the Constellation Wine Company in a variety of management and consultant roles. Most recently Barry was the National Business Manager responsible for the Woolworths Group on behalf of Constellation Wines.
Announcing the appointment Giesen General Manager Kyle Skene said having a Sales Manager specifically for the Australian market would help position Giesen for its next phase of growth.
“Australia accounts for the majority of Giesen's global sales and it goes without saying this is very important market for us,” Kyle said.
“We are delighted to have someone of the caliber of Barry to join the team. His extensive experience within the national chain sector will be extremely beneficial to Giesen.”
Over the past five years Giesen has experienced rapid growth, becoming one of New Zealand’s foremost producers of Marlborough sauvignon blanc and other varieties including; pinot gris, riesling, chardonnay and pinot noir, with 94% of sales exported to more than 20 countries. In Australia (New Zealand’s second largest export wine market next to the UK) Giesen Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is the third largest selling wine brand.
This National Sales Manager position is based in Sydney. Barry’s responsibilities include the management of all aspects of sales function within Australia, including Giesen's Australian market team. He will also work closely alongside Negociants, Giesen’s Australian distributor.
This appointment further strengthens the Giesen management team, with Kyle Skene promoted to the role of General Manager in November 2011. In addition to recruiting Barry, Kyle has also recruited for the position of Exports Sales Manager, based in the company's Christchurch headquarters. Rhys Julian has taken up this new role and will focus on new business development in the UK, Europe and Asia.
