Evan Guthrie Law Firm Helps With Wills Clinic For State Troopers in Charleston Area

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 12, 2011 - Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina volunteered to help provide members of the South Carolina Highway Patrol in the Charleston area with wills, living wills and healthcare power of attorney on Saturday May 18th 2011. The clinic was sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar to provide estate planning documents for first responders. The project is to recognize and thank the contributions that the first responders such as the state troopers, police officers, fire fighters, and EMS personnel make. The program is designed to provide estate planning documents to the first responders and their families because of the inherent risk that their jobs entail.

The clinic took place at the Department of Motor Vehicles building in North Charleston, SC. It is a way for the young lawyers in the South Carolina Bar to give back to these first responders for the service that they provide to everyone. The simple will that the event provided to the state troopers is the most important estate planning document, but the living will and healthcare power of attorney are also vital as part of an estate plan. There were several attorney volunteers to help all of the state troopers that needed wills.

The lawyer volunteers drafted the wills and healthcare documents on the spot and served as witnesses to make the documents valid. The state troopers were able to walk away with their estate planning documents that day. Attorney Evan Guthrie was happy to be able to give back to the community by using his legal knowledge and skills to assist the first responders that sacrifice so much to serve the community as a whole.
