Example: I worked for a staffing company a while back and gave 110% of my efforts with the hope of being hired on directly. The pay was crappy and I worked a position that was not what I was staffed for and found myself Recruiting for the entire NE of the United States. Well needless to say i was let go after the company was brought out by another company and failed to notice my hard work and what I was able to bring to the table as an employee should they hired me.
Well today I learned after years of recruiting and trial and error that there are all kinds of recruiting temp/staffing in house and of course your permanent placement agencies. Well in house is pretty self explanatory. But then we have the permanent placement agencies which is what I happen to do for a living. Now going thorough what I went through with a staffing company gave me a lot of insight on what not to do as a recruiter.
permanent placement: Well this is the middle man between the client and an employee so to speak. We are like an agent for both parties and work harder to place someone and we put a lot more into the job as we have everything to lose when we are looking at fits a clients criteria. We never make a penny off of anyone's hard work we are the sports agents of the professional world. We are contracted through our clients to seek the best person for the job so we do not make a dime unless we are working on what our clients need. Now this is a double edged sword because we also advocate for our associates we market them to the professional clients and or other recruiters across the globe to see if we can place this person so in turn one hand washes the other.
Now this takes special skills and patience. There is a lot of phone calls and a lot of talking, researching and understanding. If you do not have Patience this is not the job for you. This can be tough and at times frustrating but this is where the patience comes handy.
I hope this explains the difference between the staffing and placement agents. So if someone calls looking to help you with an open position please don't hang up on them. They are not looking for any money they are really just trying to help. Our country is struggling and we are all just trying to do our part so please let us help if we can. Sure the internet is free but a lot more behind the scenes goes on and sometimes we miss a shot in the dark cause we didn't use our agents.
