THE SALVATION ARMY SAVES CHRISTMAS

Never mind the Grinch who stole Christmas - The Salvation Army is on a mission to take it back.

Groups of Church Leaders and volunteers are busy picking up and wrapping thousands of presents – ready to deliver them to needy children all over the UK in time for Christmas.

Major Ray Irving, Territorial Social Services Secretary said: “For a lot of families it may feel as though the Grinch is coming their way as they struggle to buy presents in these difficult financial times. However, The Salvation Army is determined to make sure that children of all ages have the best Christmas possible – and that no-one is deprived of a gift.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal relies on the generosity of others who are able to buy an extra gift for children aged 0-16. The presents can be dropped off unwrapped at local Superdrug stores from now until 16 December. Salvation Army volunteers will then wrap the gifts and ensure they reach a needy child or young person this Christmas thanks to The Salvation Army’s own networks, local groups and social services.

Major Catherine Wyles, Divisional Leader of The Salvation Army’s Headquarters in West Scotland added: “The Salvation Army demonstrates our belief by changing people’s lives and by donating a gift you’ll really make a big difference to families struggling to cope and will put a smile on the face of a child on Christmas Day.

“We have a long history of offering practical support to people who are vulnerable or in need and couldn’t do this without the public’s help. The Grinch ended up embracing Christmas and helping others, so have a think about the toys that used to make your Christmas special and if you can, buy a gift and be part of our Appeal.”

Gift ideas include soft and educational toys for the very youngest children, to CDs, games, toys and accessories for older children. Suitable presents for teenagers, particularly the boys are also needed - as they tend to get left out of such appeals.

International church and charity The Salvation Army is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse providers of social services after the Government. Through its network of 800 churches and social service centres, The Salvation Army works with thousands of children and families and is perfectly placed to distribute the Christmas Present Appeal gifts to those people in society who are most at need at Christmas.

* All donations are welcome, however we would like to stress that food items and used or second hand products are not appropriate for this campaign. However, they can still be donated to the network of Salvation Army charity shops.
