Ena “Po-Po" Lue Scholarship Application Deadline Extended

Opportunity For Women Returning To School at Bergen Community College Extended to January 15, 2012

Dec. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- The application deadline for the Ena “Po-Po” Lue Scholarship, provided through the Bergen Community College's Women's Institute to a female community member who exhibits the need to return to school for additional training and education in order to secure employment, has been extended to January 15, 2012. This $500 scholarship can be used for Continuing Education or a degree program at Bergen Community College. This is an essay-based competition, with submissions of 500 words or less. Candidates must exhibit financial need and describe employment goals. Bergen County residency is not required.

About Ena “Po-Po” Lue:  “Po-Po” was the epitome of dedication, not only to her family, but to her community as well.  With not even a high school diploma, she became known throughout the community as a talented cook, seamstress and volunteer.  Upon her unexpected passing in January of 2010, over 1,000 people came to pay their respects.  This is a true indication of the kind of person that she was and the life that she led.

Bergen Community College Women’s Institute was founded in May 2009 is dedicated to provide opportunities for all women to develop the skills and innate abilities needed to take greater control of their lives. The Institute is a consortium of local businesses, site teaching and professional mentorship programs designed to support and nurture women's educational, emotional and physical needs throughout the many phases of life. The Institute offers women the opportunity to build new skills, impart their lifelong set of values and partner with a wide variety of business and educational leaders to become more influential and stronger contributors to the local community. The goal of the Bergen Community College Women's Institute is to develop a women's leadership curriculum to educate women to attain their personal and intellectual goals.

Bergen Community College is a public two-year coeducational college enrolling nearly 17,000 students in Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degree programs and certificate programs. Additionally, more than 30,000 students are enrolled in non-credit, professional courses through the Division of Continuing Education.
