Dec. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Seattle - With the success of its premiere trip to Papua New Guinea in August 2011, WanderTours announces its special tour programs to this remarkable island nation in 2012.

With over 850 tribal groups, Papua New Guinea is one of the earth’s most diverse and captivating places.  WanderTours is offering two unique Papua New Guinea cultural experiences in 2012, the Mt. Hagen Festival Cultural Tour in August and the Goroka Show Cultural Tour in September.

Both tours guarantee a most unforgettable experience for a limited number of lucky travelers through up-close encounters with members of approximately 75 tribes that participate in these annual cultural festivals, which highlight each trip.  Guests will have the chance to meander among the tribes while they don tribal finery in preparation for traditional performances.

The Mt. Hagen Festival Cultural Tour is a 14-day journey which includes a private pre-show event where a small number of tribes sing and dance in preparation for the Mt. Hagen Show.  A visit to the Tari area, the famed home of the Huli Wigmen is incorporated into the itinerary.

The Goroka Show Cultural Tour, on the other hand, is a 12-day excursion to the Eastern Highlands. This festival features the Asaro Mudmen of Goroka – known for their heavy mud masks and bodies painted in mud.

Each tour experience is complimented with an introduction to the time-honored practices of the tribes people. This includes boating through the many waterways of the magnificent Sepik River in the north.  The traveler will not only discover the stunningly lush landscape and colorful wildlife along the way but will also experience rural life through: a homestay; visits to sacred spirit houses; welcome singsings led by the tribal chiefs; immersion in the native foods; and visits to local craftsmen as they create indigenous masterpieces that you may take home as authentic souvenirs.

Over the years the Sepik River has become polluted from local mining operations. A portion of each tour participant’s cost will go to the building of WanderTours-sponsored water tanks in order to bring clean water to residents of the area.

Ed G., who traveled on the inaugural tour to Papua New Guinea, was delighted by the experience. “WanderTours provided excellent value and also added extras such as an up close and personal mini SingSing and a day trip through beautiful scenery to the smaller but charming Enga SingSing. The company is dedicated to giving their clients a wonderful holiday while being committed to helping them learn as much as possible about this truly unique culture.”

These co-ed tours are open to a maximum of ten travelers per group, and will be led by Beth Whitman, founder of WanderTours and author of the Wanderlust and Lipstick guides including The Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo and For Women Traveling to India.
