Specialty Espresso and Tea Bar Finds Success in Mobile; Regulars Embrace Square Mobile Payment App Coffee Sales lifted 25%

December 8, 2011 (NEW YORK, NY) - PORTS Coffee is one of a handful of New York businesses pioneering Card Case – a mobile app that allows customers to pay using their mobile phone. The app was developed by Square, the San Francisco-based company famous for equipping businesses with a credit card reader and POS system run on an iPad.

“Since the launch of the Card Case our business has benefited from the added convenience of customers paying with their smart phones,” said PORTS owner Nina Adams who founded the café with her husband Larry. “We love coffee and tea and are thrilled that our customers love our products and are willing to try new things with us.”

The adoption of pay by smart phone with the Card Case App has paced faster than expected. Mobile transactions account for a 25% increase in revenue and repeat purchasers. “Coffee and convenience go hand in hand and offering mobile solutions to our customers is paying off,” added Adams.

"We are very excited to be working with PORTS,” said Allen Yellent, Stumptown Account Manager.  “In a short time they have established themselves as one of the premier coffee bars in the city, with a fantastic espresso program and a dedication to showcasing single origin coffees."

PORTS joins the NYC coffee revolution by supplying a growing demand for single origin direct trade coffee, such as El Salvadorian Kilimanjaro (featured this month in The New Yorker). Founder Nina Adams discovered Stumptown during her career as product innovation expert at the popular Product of the Year Awards program. Stumptown’s innovative approach when it comes to cultivating the art of coffee growing around the world attracted Adams and her husband who set out to build a coffee destination for their beloved Chelsea neighborhood. New York Times coffee critic Oliver Strand called PORTS “Stumptown done well.”
