Chicago Business Owner Dennis Salazar Featured in First Book on Latino Leadership and Innovation

With Latino drop out rates in schools high and no money, Salazar's entrepreneurial spirit shows what abundant corporate training and education within an industry can provide, U.S. still provides path for success for those willing to work for it.

Dec. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL—Dennis Salazar, co-owner of Salazar Packaging with his wife Lenora, is one of ten environmentally-focused entrepreneurs featured in a book recently launched at Stanford University in California.  His story in the book is extraordinary, and shows that hard work is still a viable option to giving back and producing for the new economy.  With drop out rates still at all time highs across different parts of the country, Salazar provides a great way to still make it work, to still make a difference, and provides a great role model for what may come in 2050 when 1 out of 4 may be Latino.  If more people like him stepped up to make a difference, those numbers would not be so scary.  He is a shining star for Chicago.

“Salazar Packaging is an innovative leader in the sustainable packaging industry. The company delivered to the market the Globe Guard® Reusable Box, the first shipping box specifically designed for reuse,” wrote author Graciela Tiscareño-Sato. “Dennis is exerting tremendous thought leadership in his industry, bringing together several manufacturers to really innovate new forms of sustainable packaging. He’s serving a growing market of eco-conscious business owners like me with products we are proud to use.”  Latinnovating: Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them was recently released at Stanford University’s Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit.

With decades of packaging industry experience between the two of them, Dennis and Lenora decided to start up their own packaging company in 2007.  They recognized the wastefulness pervasive in the industry and knew they could do better.  The Salazars have created the Globe Guard® brand, along with an online green packaging store.   “We are helping to bring the packaging industry and the green community together with our writing, speaking engagements, and our innovative products. Our work has helped key manufacturers create and produce more eco-friendly products,” said Salazar.  In addition to speaking at industry events and blogging frequently, he speaks at Chicago area high schools to inner-city students –an enthusiastic role model for the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Due to its unique focus, Latinnovating received congressional recognition months ahead of its release. It has been endorsed by over two dozen individuals throughout the educational, social justice, business and environmental communities.  It is the first book of its kind, showcasing leadership and innovation within the Latino business community and profiles ten business leaders across ten different industries.
