PRLog - Dec. 8, 2011 - After receiving thousands of entries, QUINN-direct is delighted to announce the winners of its competition to design a Christmas Card. Six-year old Sophie Ní Dhomhnaill from Scoil Mhic Dara, An Cheathrú Rua, Co. Na Gaillimhe is the overall winning. The runner-up is 10-year Liam Hamilton from Scoil Baile Mhic Airt, An Sean Phobal, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

The winner’s school, Scoil Mhic Dara, has won a €10,000 prize fund. Likewise, the runner-up’s school, Scoil Baile MhicAirt, has won a €5,000 prize fund. Both Sophie and Liam have received an iPad 2 for themselves. The winning card was unveiled on The Late Late Toy show on the 2nd of December and features in the RTE Guide which hit shelves this week.

Patrick O’Brien, CEO of Liberty Insurance said: “We were delighted with the response to this competition, and have thoroughly enjoyed going through the 1000’s of cards we received. We are pleased to be able to offer support to National schools through this competition. In what are difficult times we hope that this prize fund will bring a lot of Christmas cheer to the two schools affected.”

The standard of entry was so high that 10 highly commended certificates were also handed out to other talented young artists. The difficult job of choosing the winners fell to our experienced panel of judges which included: Don Conway; Emma O’Driscoll; Steve Simpson; Denise Sammon from the Late, Late Show; and Dearbhail Feehan from Quinn-direct/Liberty Insurance.

The winning cards - as well as all of the other entries - showed imagination, originality and creativity, and depicted in so many different ways what Christmas means for the children of Ireland.
