Dec. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- LONDON, 7 December 2011 – D-Link today announces the launch of the DNS-1550; a simple, tailored solution to secure network storage designed to help SMBs combat the threat of catastrophic data loss. Nearly fifty per cent of SMBs have admitted to suffering data loss, according to a recent survey, a six per cent increase on the previous year . Statistics such as these demonstrate that companies can no longer afford to overlook the provision of secure and effective data storage.

For SMBs that lack the manpower and budgets of many larger organisations, networked Ethernet storage can offer a simple and affordable solution for their data storage. The rack-mounted DNS-1550 combines the superior performance of best-of-class iSCSI technology  and the advanced services of Network Attached Storage within a single device. Ensuring that business-critical information is secure and accessible, even in the event of hardware damage, fire destruction or theft, the DNS-1550 also offers users the ability to backup data straight to the Cloud via Amazon S3.

To meet the demands of businesses with growing data storage requirements, the DNS-1550 also offers users enhanced features which you might not expect from a device in its price bracket. Enterprise-class RAID redundancy provides excellent protection and rapid data restoration in the event of drive failure and the DNS-1550 also includes automatic USB log retrieval, highly-regarded Acronis Backup software  and S.M.A.R.T monitoring of drives to forewarn users of impending data loss.

Designed for ease-of-use, the DSC-1550 an intuitive GUI design, hot swappable modular accessories to simplify field maintenance and MAID 2.0 energy saving technology to help reduce running costs.

Andrew Mulholland, Marketing Manager at D-Link UK & Ireland, said “For businesses, having access to the right data at the right time can make a considerable difference to the bottom line. Similarly, the loss of business-critical data can be catastrophic for a business of any size, let alone an SMB with limited resources. Knowing this, we’ve engineered the DNS-1550 to provide businesses with an intuitive, robust and centralised network storage solution, fit for all their needs. So, whether it’s human error, drive failure or something entirely unpredictable such as fire damage, businesses aren’t faced with the prospect of having to start again from scratch.”

Notes to editors
Capabilities of the DNS-1550:
●   All-in-one storage – as a unified device, the DNS-1550 brings together the superior performance of best-of-class iSCSI technology and the advanced services of NAS, all within a single solution.
Disaster recovery – the DNS-1550 is engineered to address businesses’ disaster recovery requirements by replicating critical data to remote sites to ensure data availability in the event of system failure, fire or theft. The device also features Rsync between Storages and even the option of cloud backup to Amazon S3.
●   Back-up – a number of flexible options ensure users can control exactly how, when and where data is backed up. The DNS-1550 includes ‘volume snapshot’ capabilities, which backs up and restores data in a matter of minutes – in contrast to traditional tape-based systems that can take hours.
●   Hassle-free access – files can be shared across the internal network or remotely over the Internet via an FTP or web file manager.  The DNS-1550 has been designed to make it easy to deploy, protect and back-up virtual servers.
●   Simple to install and manage – the DNS-1550 has been designed with an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) so customers with limited IT knowledge can easily install and manage their new data storage solution.
●   Green credentials – Unlike many of its competitors, the DNS-1550 boasts a range of green features including automatic stand-by mode and fan speed control, reducing energy consumption without compromising performance.
