Darragh MacAnthony proud to be Posh and says stop the complaints against Peterborough

Peterborough continue to play exciting football and that is one reason why chairman Darragh MacAnthony remains proud to be Posh.

Dec. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- DARREN Ferguson has urged Posh fans to keep believing in the team’s ability to be successful in the Championship.

The Posh boss is refusing to panic despite a run of five points from a possible 24 which has seen the team tumble from seventh to 16th in the space of six weeks.

Posh are now just four points clear of the relegation zone following Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 defeat at home to Barnsley and they face a tough derby fixture at Leicester City this weekend.

But Ferguson remains relaxed. His confidence in his squad is undiminished.

Ferguson said: “It’s a point a game from here on in to get us to our target of 50 points and there’s no question we have the ability to achieve that.

“This league is so competitive it can mess with your head if you let it. Win a couple in a row and you shoot up the table and the opposite happens if you lose a couple.

“Teams are hard to beat and take advantage of any slips. Obviously we have to find a way of keeping some clean sheets, but we are generally playing pretty well.

“We’ve certainly played well and been the better team in our last two matches and yet picked up no points whereas we picked up a point in games against Middlesbrough and Birmingham when we didn’t play so well.

“The spirit is still there though. That’s why we fight back so often in matches.”

Posh have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, but only table-toppers Southampton have scored more goals.

The team continue to play exciting football and that is one reason why chairman Darragh MacAnthony remains proud to be Posh.

He was irritated by some comments made on social network sites over the weekend.

MacAnthony said: “I appreciate some people are upset that we lost a game Saturday that we should have won, but they can save the dramatic tweets as no-one at the club deserves them.

“Some of our football was sublime at times, but sometimes there is no justice from playing free-flowing football.

“But let’s make the doom and gloom merchants stay away as our young squad needs positive support at all times.

“They are still finding their feet at this level and yet they have never let us down. We will only get stronger.

“I love watching us play and I don’t want us to change our style. It’s a 46-game season, not a 20-game season.”

Left-back Tom Kennedy is ineligible to play for Posh at Leicester on Saturday as he’s on loan from the King Power Stadium.
