San Diego – December 5, 2011 – CommNexus, San Diego’s non-profit technology association and technology incubator (EvoNexus), announces the election of 11 new board directors committed to assisting the organization in providing programs and services that will continue to help propel the high tech industry and our region forward.
“The value CommNexus brings to the innovation economy is deeply dependant on the passion and contributions of its directors,” said Rory Moore, CEO of CommNexus. “The board understands the importance of growing the innovation sector and, more importantly, how to accomplish it. Every director is a stakeholder in the success of this mission. We are honored to have the new directors and the employees they represent join our organization.”
John Major, Chairman of CommNexus and Broadcom, adds “The heart of CommNexus is our board. The fact that such outstanding individuals, as we have here, are willing to find time in their already too busy calendars is an indication of both their willingness to give back and the value that CommNexus brings to the industry and the community. These are challenging times. We have a lot to do. These individuals will play a critical role in our ability to do what needs to be done.”
New board directors include:
Don Abbey – EVP Quality, Regulatory & Medical Affairs, CareFusion
CareFusion is a global leader in improving the safety and lowering the cost of healthcare for future generations. In his role, Don has oversight of CareFusion’s R&D innovation process, as well as the CareFusion Center for Clinical Safety and Excellence. Before joining CareFusion, Don held this same position at both Cardinal Health and Respironics, Inc.
George Cacioppo – VP Engineering and Operations, Consumer Tax Group, Intuit
Within Intuit’s Consumer Tax Group, George is responsible for online, desktop, and mobile applications for the TurboTax products in the U.S. market. TurboTax is one of Intuit’s flagship products, contributing to Intuit’s revenue of $3.9 billion for the 2011 fiscal year. George has almost 30 years of experience in the industry including 10 years at Adobe and 10 years at Digital Equipment Corporation.
Tim Caulfied – CEO, American Internet Systems
Tim joined AIS as CEO in September 2010 and has since had a vision of growing the company into a regional powerhouse provider of enterprise-class data center and connectivity services. Tim has served in leadership roles with industry giants Savvis, Cable & Wireless, and Exodus and was a key player in the evolution of the web-hosting business into a global provider of sophisticated enterprise-level IT solutions.
Kate Collier – SVP, Bank of America
Kate began her career at Bank of America in January 1995 in Commercial Banking and has grown to her current role as Senior Vice President and Market Executive for both the San Diego and Middle Market Office. She is responsible for overseeing lending, treasury, international and investment banking activities.
Michael Fuller – Partner, Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear
Knobbe Martens San Diego office specializes in key technical areas such as telecommunications, software, and medical devices and boasts the largest biotech patent practice in San Diego. Mike currently represents clients in a wide range of technologies, including molecular biology, pharmaceuticals, computer hardware/software and wireless communications. Before entering law, Mike was the co-founder and President of Intronics Computer Corporation, a company specializing in the design and fabrication of motherboards for personal computers.
Tim Holl – Partner, Ernst & Young
Tim joined the E&Y San Diego office from San Francisco. His focus is on serving companies in the semiconductor, software and telecommunication industries. Ernst & Young is a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services, employing 152,000 people worldwide. E&Y is also known for their Entrepreneur of the Year Awards program to celebrate successful entrepreneurs.
David Marino – Principal & EVP, Hughes Marino
Hughes Marino is the largest tenant representation company in San Diego. David specializes in high-value, time-critical and complex transactions for technology, life science and business service companies. David has a broad business background as an early stage angel investor in over twenty companies and is a LP in venture capital funds including Mission Ventures, Windward Ventures, Hamilton Bioventures and Avalon Ventures.
David Martin – Chairman and CEO, Legend3D
David has held the Chairman and CEO positions of Legend3D since 2002. Legend3D is a leading digital media technology company that specializes in converting any movie, television show, sporting event, advertisement or other entertainment asset into 3D with a quality indistinguishable from content shot in 3D. Previously, David was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hollywood Entertainment Corporation.
Ron Nersesian – EVP & COO, Agilent Technologies
Ron works out of the Agilent headquarters in Santa Clara, California. Before his current role as EVP and COO, he served as the president of Agilent’s Electronic Measurement group (EMG) where he oversaw all business operations of the company’s Electronic Measurement and Semiconductor and Board Test segments. Agilent Technologies, a spin-off of Hewlett-Packard Company, broke records on Nov. 18, 1999 as the largest initial public offering (IPO) in Silicon Valley history.
Arto Nummela – VP, Smart Devices Americas Business Unit, Nokia
Arto is based in Nokia’s San Diego office, where he is responsible for Nokia’s portfolio and business within North and South America. Arto joined Nokia in 1994 and has served in several positions including Vice President AT&T Business Team, Vice President R&D Productization and General Manager for Vodafone Sales Account Globally.
