For the past four months, Parseghian has been in Arusha, Tanzania working for the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR), and was working remotely with the tribunal since January through a partnership with USC Law’s International Human Rights Clinic. The UNICTR was established to prosecute persons responsible for the Rwandan genocide and other serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of Rwanda in 1994. Parseghian assisted in numerous historical trials by conducting research, wrapping up judgments and drafting decisions. Among other cases, Parseghian worked closely with President Judge Khalida Khan in the multi-accused case of Bizimungu et al., which involved four former national ministers and was the longest-running case in the history of the Tribunal.
