Miyashiro, a 1981 graduate of McKinley High School and Hawaii Youth Symphony alumnus, has risen to international fame in the jazz trumpetscene for his screaming high register and energetic performances. Well-versed in classical music and other genres as well, Miyashiro is also in great demand as a classical soloist as well as in the recording studios for movies, TV shows and the rising world of video game soundtracks. His father, Tokio Miyashiro, was a professional trumpet player with the Royal Hawaiian Band and his mother was a professional dancer from Tokyo. Beginning at age 14 and through high school, Miyashiro had the opportunity to play professionally with Sammy Davis, Jr., Engelbert Humperdinck, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Tom Jones and Henry Mancini. In his senior year, he was selected to be in the McDonalds All American High School Band. Soon after, Miyashiroplayed lead trumpet with Buddy Rich. After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, he went on to play lead trumpet in such bands as Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Mel Lewis and Ray Charles. In 1990, Eric moved to Tokyo, where he lives today. Miyashiro has also performed with the Count Basie Orchestra and has played in bands for Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett and Sarah Vaughn. Over the years, he has performed with Paul Anka, Stevie Wonder, Bill Conti, John Williams, Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, The Stylistics, Tower of Power and Anita O'Day. On the classical trumpet, Miyashiro has appeared with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, among others. As a Yamaha Performing Artist, he travels around the world as a studio musician, clinician, soloist and bandleader. Miyashiro has two bands: EM Big Band and Z Force. He has recorded numerous solo CDs including "Kick Up" (2000), "City of Brass" (2003), "Times Square" (2006), "Pleides", a tribute to Maynard Ferguson (2008), and "Skydance" (2010). End
