Intellectual property is often the very core of a business, be it technological innovations or trading information, client lists or patents or even something as simple as specific knowledge within the firm, the loss or theft of which could be the difference between success and failure.

However, while many CEOs are certain about the importance of their intellectual property and data assets, many are still not sure how to get the best from their portfolios, particularly as litigation, costs and security all exert certain pressures on organisations.

How important is intellectual property?

In a recent Legal IQ study, conducted ahead of the 9th Annual Nordic IPR Forum in March 2012, found that the majority of organisations view intellectual property as integral to their business models. The study polled over 250 professionals across a host of industries, including manufacturing, pharmaceutical and automotive, to name a few, involved in patents, trademarks, designs and copyrights across the world.
