''LED Lighting Has Tremendous Importance For India'' - Union Power Minister at LED Expo 2011

Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon'ble Union Minister of Power, Govt. of India spoke about the importance of LED Lighting at the inaguration of 'LED EXPO 2011' at Pragati Maidan on December 1, 2011. The 5th edition of this show on from 1st-3rd December.

Dec. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon'ble Minister of Power, Govt. of India, inaugurated the 5th Edition of this iconic show at Pragati Maidan on December 1, 2011. In his inaugural address at the 'LED Summit 2011', Shri Shinde said " It is reported that Lighting consumes, on an average, 27% of the electricity produced in the world. In advanced countries, this percentage may be as low as 5% and in the under-developed countries; it can be as high as 90%. In this background, LED Lighting with its spectacular potential savings assumes tremendous importance for a country like India, where lighting consumes more than 20% of total energy"

"We expect that in the 12th Plan, LED technology will contribute towards reducing demand in a big way in the area of lighting and industrial application. This shall help in achieving our demand side saving targets under the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE) in the country" Shri Shinde added further.

Speaking on the occasion, DR Sandeep Garg, Energy Economist, Bureau of Energy Efficiency(BEE), said " The Indian LED Market is anticipated to grow at 54% till 2014 based on the industry estimates. It is expected that by 2021, LED technology will penetrate 57 percent of the lighting market. By 2031, more than 80 percent of the lighting market will be captured"

With increasing scarcity of natural resources, the demand for efficient technologies and judicious use of existing energy reserves is escalating. In response, LED Expo 2011, India's largest exhibition on LED Lighting Products and Technology is showcasing the fast track developments in the highly promising, energy efficient LED technology from 1st-3rd December 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The size of the 'LED Expo 2011' has increased considerably from previous years covering a total area of 1,00,000 sq ft area tallying a total of 400 booths with 250 Exhibitors this time. The mega event which attracts record-breaking footfall of visitors every year is hoping to attract more than 20,000 visitors from the industry this year as industry efforts increase in creating awareness on LEDs technological benefits and the evident surge of LED applications in the mainstream.

These mock up rooms have been created live as per actual places to give the exact effect of LED Lightings in action. A product showcase gallery has also been created at the show.

This show also opens new avenues & opportunities for LED manufacturing to be started in India, as the demand is growing . The technology for manufacturing & packaging LEDs is at display at the show from countries like Japan & Taiwan.
