Dec. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Bethpage Federal Credit Union President & CEO Mr. Kirk Kordeleski, and retired cancer physician Ivan Rothman, M.D., were honored at South Nassau’s 2011 Annual Carnation Ball held Saturday, November 5 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.

Mr. Kordeleski was the Carnation Ball’s honoree and Dr. Rothman was the recipient of South Nassau’s prestigious Mary Pearson Award.  South Nassau administrators, board members and medical staff members, as well as many of the region’s healthcare executives, state and local public officials and business and community leaders were among the nearly 700 guests who attended the event.

The Carnation Ball raised more than $695,000 in support of the Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center at South Nassau Communities Hospital.  The center is the only one on Long Island that is equipped with three of the most advanced and effective technologies used to treat and eradicate cancer: the Varian Novalis Tx™, da Vinci® Surgical System and Gamma Knife®.  It is a recipient of many prestigious honors and citations, including the American College of Surgeons Comprehensive Community Cancer Center and the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award.

“The good works of this evening’s guests of honor, combined with the support and generosity of our devoted friends, are a driving force behind South Nassau’s tradition of excellence in the delivery of healthcare services,” said Joseph A. Quagliata, president and CEO of South Nassau.  “On behalf of the communities and patients that turn to South Nassau for the quality healthcare that they deserve, I thank Mr. Kordeleski and Dr. Rothman for their dedication to South Nassau’s mission.”

The Carnation Ball honoree is recognized for exemplary leadership and contributions in support of South Nassau’s mission.  Mr. Kordeleski has been steadfast in his commitment to South Nassau’s mission to provide high-quality healthcare services.  South Nassau isn’t the only reputable Long Island-based organization to benefit from Mr. Kordeleski’s business acumen, selflessness and charity.  He is a member of the Executive Committee  and First Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Association (LIA); serves as Chairman of the Board of Project GRAD Long Island; and sits on the Council of Advisors for the Community Development Corporation of Long Island and the Council of Overseers for the Tilles Center.  In addition, he serves on Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano’s Business/Economic Development Group.

The Mary Pearson Award is presented annually to an individual for extraordinary effort and individual contributions that significantly advance South Nassau’s commitment to compassionate care and standard setting healthcare services.  The founding director of South Nassau’s cancer program, Dr. Rothman was the architect of the strategic plan that has transformed the program into one of the very best in the New York metro area.  His leadership was also vital to the overall growth of South Nassau. During his career at South Nassau, Dr. Rothman held numerous leadership posts, including president of the medical board, and served on multiple committees, including the Strategic Planning Committee.

“This evening’s proceeds will help ensure that the communities and residents served by South Nassau continue to have convenient access to the most advanced cancer care available anywhere,” said Elizabeth Nardone, South Nassau’s vice president of development.  “We are thankful for the many generous and benevolent sponsors, including Exclusive Ball Sponsor Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, and the devoted efforts of the Carnation Ball Committee and volunteers.”
