When users of the non-toxic, alcohol-free Defra approved disinfectant which is a favourite with zoos, animal refuges and even the RSPCA were questioned about their reasons for choosing the brand their responses came as a complete surprise.
“Apparently, the animals are the biggest fans of our range because a significant number of those purchasers spoke to said they valued the calming effect it had on their dogs, cats and other animals,” said Alan Dudley, MD of Safe Solutions, makers of the range.
“But quite frankly there is absolutely no ingredient in Safe4 with the capability to calm animals. It is a water-based, biodegradable and contains no phenols, aldhydes or alcohol so this calming effect is a mystery.
“Furthermore, it is interesting to see that our survey also showed that some animals seem to have individual preferences spread right across our product range which includes Lavender, Green (Apple), Freshmint and Odourless. Some like one fragrance but not the others.
“Our biggest selling point has always been the complete safety of our product which is totally non-toxic and perfectly safe to use. However, we are now looking at setting up a more formal investigation into the benefits of Safe4 from the point of view of the end user – the animals.”
Chloe Weedall, office receptionist at Safe Solutions Winsford, Cheshire HQ knows only too well how animals can be picky about the smells that surround them. She regularly speaks to Safe4 customers who telephone her office for help and advice about products.
“Pet lovers always know the fragrance their animals prefer and they are in no doubt which suits their cat or dog when they call in for advice,” said Chloe. “My own dog Indiana, an American bulldog actually prefers the Safe 4 apple fragrance. It really helps keep her settled.
“But I’ve had lots of conversations with customers about fragrance preferences since we launched our new Lavender fragrance. And all seem to be convinced their pet has a clear preference.
“The hygiene and safety elements of Safe4 certainly set it apart from anything else in the market. But perhaps now we can suggest it looks like we’re also the pet’s first choice too.”
