Dec. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Gisele Bundchen won the award for the Best Green International Celebrity at the Green Awards in London this weekend.

She beat out a range of celebrities to claim the award, which honors creative and innovative approaches to sustainability.

People were able to vote in an online poll in the months leading up to the award and chose the Brazilian model over the likes over musician Miguel Bose and former Beatle Paul McCartney.

Bundchen said: “I am blessed to have grown up in a family that embraced the importance of nature and community coexisting in harmony. My career in the public eye has given me the opportunity to raise awareness about important socio-environmental causes in hopes of promoting a more conscious relationship with our environment.”

The supermodel not only gets involved in environmental projects such as the Drop of Water movement and the Clean Water Project, which she launched in 2008 with her family, but her most well known humanitarian role is that of a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program, which she’s been apart of since 2009.

Showing her dedication to the environment, she went head to head with actor Don Cheadle to see who could get more people to take action and plant a new forest. Her challenges not only resulted in her winning but also saw activity triple on World Environment Day.

Her legacy forest will be planted in Brazil later this year.
