Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Miss Jamaica Universe 2011, Shakira Martin will host her 7 Days of Christmas Toy Drive to Raise Awareness of Children in Jamaica Diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia. Meet  & Greet Miss Jamaica Universe 2011, as she shares her passion for causes near and dear to her heart. To fulfill the mandate of her crowning platform, Shakira Martin, who maintains a healthy lifestyle despite living with Sickle Cell Anemia, will be hosting this event bringing together people from all walks of life to support a worthy cause. The event, the brainchild of Miss Martin, came about as a means to bring about joy to hospitalized children who are away from their families during the holidays. This is one of many activities aimed at raising awareness about children of Jamaica who suffer from grave disease.

The public is encouraged to bring a toy worth $10 or more or give a $10 donation upon entry. An educational toy is preferred, but any toy will be received with sincere appreciation.

ABOUT Miss Jamaica Universe 2011

Shakira Martin was crowned Miss Jamaica-Universe on Saturday night July 9, 2011 at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, Jamaica. The  5’8”, Shakira who wore the sash ‘Miss Fiction Jamaica, also won the sectional prize for Most Aware. Martin, a young woman with an amazing drive is working to make a difference in the lives she touches. She is an advocate for Sickle Cell Anemia. Martin has faced this disabling disease all her life but refuses to become a victim of it. Being a Sickler herself, Sickle Cell has served as a driving force motivating her to take great strides in life. Shakira wants to be a voice in front of this dreaded illness, raising recognition about this disabling disease suffered by millions worldwide. Other causes that Martin lends her voice to include: Breast Cancer, Lupus, and Clinical Depression just to name a few. One of her goals is to build a Sickle Cell Research Clinic in Africa, where the disease began.
