Construction at the Rapid City Regional Airport moves forward

Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Rapid City, S.D. – Building at the Rapid City Regional Airport is going according to plan. The new rental car section was recently opened, along with additional office space and improved parking structure.

The project is moving along “nicely” according to J. Scull Construction owner, Jim Scull.

“Work continues on the rooftop patio, renovated restaurant, expanded Security Area, and new boarding gates,” Scull said.  “Security is tight, and space is limited, but the airport still continues to function smoothly.”

In January, local Black Hills contracting company, J. Scull Construction was awarded the project over Minnesota and Utah firms when their bid came in the lowest; $13.4 million.

“This is indeed good news. We received some very competitive bids and I’m thrilled this project is going to a local contractor,” said Airport Executive Director, Cameron Humphres.

Scull attributes their economical bid, which came in at $2.4 million less than the highest competitors’ bid, to their efficient construction practices, and leading-edge project management.  This ultra-efficient method helps fast track the entire building process by overlapping key portions of the construction process. J. Scull Construction practices this method for all types of projects, including residential, commercial and retail buildings.

This is the first major update to the Rapid City Regional Airport in nearly 23 years. It’s a big change, but one that was needed.

The travel industry in Rapid City continues to boom with no sign of slowing down. As a central location, the airport provides convenient direct flights to major cities across the U.S., including Las Vegas, Denver and Chicago.

The renovations to the airport will provide additional terminals and room for guests. It also brings a fresh, modern look to a travel hub that greets many guests to Rapid City for the first time.
