Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Travertine is a completely natural stone that has been used for many years for decorative purposes, largely due to its strength and durability but also for the unique features it offers. Travertine tiles are suitable for both wall tile and floor tile installation and they have beautiful subtle tones that add character and depth to a room. Many home owners like the idea of using travertine tiles because they are simply beautiful and they will certainly add value to the home. Travertine is also used for external applications and has been for many years because it is so hard, dense and durable, many important and iconic buildings have been built using travertine because it offers beauty and its unique characteristics add to the style of the building.

Travertine is sourced from the earth and extracted before being processed and prepared for market where home owners will find them in various forms, sizes and ranges of densities. Travertine offers characteristic earthy tones such as beiges, browns and light tones; this is largely what makes them so popular for home installation especially for traditional themes and designs.

Travertine tiles can be used in many places such as kitchen and bathroom floors and they can also be used for wall tile installation or both if you wish.  Travertine tiles are part of the natural stone tile category because they are sourced and are a result of a natural process, this often makes travertine tiles a little more expensive than other tile materials but this doesn’t mean that travertine tiles cannot be sourced for very reasonable prices and by taking the time to source the correct tiles and designs, home owners can often find great prices.
Many home owners worry that they will not be able to install travertine floor tiles themselves but in fact, although certain procedures have to be followed, it is an achievable task. All natural stone floor tiles will need preparation before and after installation and they will need to be sealed to protect them further from any spillages and stains. Always ensure that you get the correct advice for the tile manufacturer before you embark on any task to ensure you are applying the correct adhesive, grout and sealant.

Often travertine wall tiles are lighter and are also easy to install and if you are used to tiling and are a confident tiler, the task should not pose too many problems, again remember that the tiles will need sealing and always carry out any preparation before and after installing any tiles.

As far as design goes, there are lots of ways to install travertine tiles that will create a unique and personal design and it really depends on where you are using the travertine tiles. They are suitable for floor tile and wall tile installation but they can more or less be used anywhere within the home as a flooring solution. They also work well as a kitchen countertop material, backsplash material and for many places in bathrooms.

Travertine tiles are easy to clean and maintain, always ensure you check the tile cleaning solution is suitable for travertine tiles and it is always best to use a neutral cleaner, sweep the area first before attempting to clean, much the same way as you would clean other tile materials.

Travertine is a beautiful material that will add beauty, style and value to your home and they will last for many years.
