Nov. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- (Hong Kong, 30 Nov 2011) Two distinguished researchers from Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), Dr Wang Keh-chung and Dr Wu Enboa are among the 14 local professionals who were conferred the title of Fellow last week by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE is the world’s largest association for the engineering profession.

The title of IEEE Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in the fields of engineering and technology. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognised by the technical community as an esteemed honour and an important career achievement.

Dr Wang Keh-chung, who joined ASTRI in 2009 as Vice President and Group Director of Integrated Circuits Design Group, is being recognised by IEEE for his contributions to GaAs HBT integrated circuits for high-speed data conversion and optical fiber communication systems. Dr Wang has over 24 years of experience in high-speed IC development. He is a pioneer in the development of GaAs HBT technologies which have been applied broadly in power amplifiers of cellular phones, light wave communication ICs and data converters. He is leading the IC teams to develop total turn-key IC solutions for the market.

Dr Wu Enboa is being recognised by IEEE for his contributions to light emitting diode and packaging technologies. Dr Wu joined ASTRI in 2005 and later assumed the title of Vice President and Group Director of the Materials and Packaging Technologies Group. Under his leadership, new LED package design and applications such as LED street lamps, LED indoor lighting, LED pico-projector, LED display and LED TV backlight were successfully developed and commercialized. In 2011, Dr Wu was bestowed LED Expert Award by GG-LED.com, an authoritative online platform for promotion of LED industry in China.

In congratulating the latest group of IEEE Fellow, ASTRI’s CEO Dr Cheung Nim-kwan, who is a member of IEEE Board of Directors said, “I am very proud of the recognition given by IEEE to my two ASTRI colleagues and their peers from Hong Kong. I am convinced that the conferment will motivate them to strive forward and make further contributions to the advancement of technology.”

The IEEE Fellows are selected after a rigorous evaluation procedure. Of the 69 new Fellows from the Asia Pacific area, 17 are from Japan, followed by 14 from Hong Kong, 10 from Taiwan, 8 each from India and Mainland China and 4 each from Australia, Korea and Singapore. Out of the 14 recipients in Hong Kong, Dr Wang and Dr Wu are from a research centre, the rest are academics from local universities.
