Palm Bay Ford Announces Ford ponies up 650 hp for 2013 Mustang!

Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- The GT model’s 5-liter V8 will put out 420 horsepower — more than double the power of the my father’s 1986 GT, which seemed really fast at the time.

But are some of the updates a bit too precious for the traditionally rough-and-ready Mustang? While high-intensity headlights are a useful high-performance upgrade, the light-emitting diode bars designed to accentuate the headlamps seem like fussy eye makeup. What works for Audi may not fit as well on a Ford. There’s also the “pony projection” light, which shines the image of the Mustang emblem on the ground when the driver unlocks the doors — too much!

The GT Track Package is a new option for 2013 aimed at drivers who wring their cars out on closed courses. It is available only on Mustang GTs with manual transmissions and a 3.73 axle ratio and includes an auxiliary engine cooler, upgraded radiator, performance brake pads and the same differential that’s on the racy Mustang Boss 302.

A new 4.2-inch LCD screen gives drivers access to information about the car’s performance and fuel economy. It also can also be used with the Track Apps feature, which measures g forces, shows acceleration times in quarter-mile and zero-to-60 mph increments.

For people who drive strictly on the street – as in most Mustang drivers – the car also has a hill-start assist system to keep cars with manual transmissions from rolling backward when starting out on a hill.

The 2013 Ford Mustang will be built at Ford’s AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich., and goes on sale in the spring of 2012, at Palm Bay Ford, as a 2013 model.
